For Haisheng Group we developed a 5 hectare turnkey greenhouse for tomato production in Dongtai, China. A key feature of the project is its Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage system, which stores heat and cold in underground water layers. Summer heat can be stored for use during winter, while cold from winter can be used to cool the greenhouse during summer.

Combined with heat pumps, the system provides highly efficient, fully electric and fossil free heating and cooling throughout the year. The project also combines Dutch greenhouse expertise with a strong local approach. Materials such as steel, aluminum and glass were supplied locally, while local construction teams worked with specialized Dutch supervisors to maintain Van der Hoeven's quality standards.
